Over 14,000 political, religious banners removed in less than 18 hours across Mumbai

After the conclusion of Ganeshotsav festivity, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has launched a cleanliness drive and a campaign to remove advertising banners, posters, flags among others across Mumbai. Several banners and posters were displayed outside Ganeshotsav pandal during last few days.

More than 14,000 advertising boards, murals, arches, flags were removed by the license department of the civic body within 18 hours of Anant Chaturdashi, which was celebrated on September 17, reports stated.

The civic body initiated a special drive following the immersions, which continued until 6 pm on Wednesday, September 18. The removal included both those that were permitted for Ganeshotsav and illegal banners.

As per BMC data, a total of 14,370 banners and posters were removed by the civic team across 24 administrative wards since Tuesday night, September 17. More than 80% of these were identified as religious banners.

The maximum number of religious hoardings were removed from Mumbai and most of them were from Andheri-Jogeshwari West.

The total materials removed have been categorised as: 1. Religious - 7,715 banners, 3,174 boards, and 579 posters; Political - 807 banners, 705 boards, and 87 posters; Commercial - 260 banners, 27 boards, and 31 posters; 985 flags.

The highest numbers were recorded in K West - Andheri West, Vile Parle West (2,333), K East - Jogeshwari, Andheri East (1,990), and R South - Kandivali (1,310).
