In a bid to ensure safety during Makar Sankranti, the Mumbai Police launched a special drive against the sale and use of illegal nylon manja, often used for kite flying. The campaign, conducted from January 10 to 15, 2025, resulted in the registration of 19 cases under the Indian Penal Code and the Maharashtra Police Act.
Nylon manja, despite being banned due to its hazardous nature, continues to surface in the market. It poses serious risks, causing injuries to citizens and harming hundreds of birds annually. Acting on intelligence about its clandestine sale, the police conducted targeted raids, seizing nylon manja and related materials worth INR 35,350.
