Mumbai Police on Monday issued prohibitory orders restricting movement and unlawful assembly of five or more persons in case of breach of peace, disturbance of public tranquility and apprehension of danger to human life. This order will be effective from April 10 and will remain in force till April 24 in the city. This step has been taken to prevent any kind of riot.
The order was issued by DCP, Operations, Mumbai Police, Vishal Thakur. A police officer said that this is a routine order, which is issued by the police at regular intervals. The order prohibits any meeting of five or more persons, any procession of any person, any use of loudspeakers, across the city for the period commencing from 00.01 hours on April 10th to 24 hours on April 24. Music bands and bursting of crackers are prohibited in any procession.
However, the order exempts marriage ceremonies and matrimonial functions, funeral gatherings and cremation grounds, burial places, statutory meeting of companies, clubs, cooperatives, other societies and associations.
The order also exempts social gathering and meeting of clubs, cooperatives, other societies and associations to carry on their normal business. Meeting to watch films, plays or performances, as the case may be, in or near cinema houses, theaters or any place of public entertainment. It exempts courts of law and assemblies in or near the offices of government and local bodies in the discharge of official or semi-official functions.
