Mumbai-Pune Expressway Becomes Maharashtra's First AI-Supervised Highway

On the Mumbai-Pune expressway, Maharashtra's first AI-based traffic intelligent management system (ITMS) went live on Friday, July 19. Its goals are to improve road safety for cars and their occupants and to simplify traffic.

Important characteristics of the Intelligent Traffic Management System Based on AI:

• Automated Traffic Violation Detection: To make it easier to issue e-challans, the system has the ability to automatically detect a variety of traffic offences.
• Vehicle Plate Recognition: Identifies infractions more rapidly, increasing the effectiveness of enforcement.
• Better Incident Response: To lessen protracted traffic congestion, identify and report broken down vehicles as soon as possible.
• Comprehensive Surveillance: Throughout the 95-kilometer road, more than 200 AI-enabled CCTV cameras will keep an eye on traffic.

The Regional Transport Office (RTO) will keep an eye on the AI-Based Traffic Intelligent Management System from a control room in Lonavala. It is anticipated that this state-of-the-art system will significantly lessen traffic-related problems and enhance driving on this famous highway. The daily average number of vehicles passing through this route is about 40,000, and on weekends, that number crosses 60,000 mark.
