Mumbai City has ranked 45th in Class 6 and 50th in Class 9 in the National Achievement Survey (NAS) 2024. The survey was conducted by NCERT on December 4, 2024. It was part of the National Education Policy 2020 under the PARAKH project. The survey assessed students from Classes 3, 6, and 9.

In contrast, Mumbai Suburban turned out to be the worst-performing districts in all three classes. Kolhapur emerged as the top-performing district in Maharashtra. It also did well nationally. Kolhapur ranked 26th in Class 3, 10th in Class 6, and 14th in Class 9 across the country.

As far as the state is concerned, Maharashtra has ranked eighth in the country. Class wise, it ranked sixth in Class 3, seventh in Class 6, and tenth in Class 9. In the state, the survey covered 1,23,659 students, 13,930 teachers, and 4,314 schools.

Overall, the state performed better than the national average in most subjects. But district-wise performance showed a wide gap. Across India, Kerala topped Class 6, while Punjab ranked first in Class 3 and Class 9.

The survey suggests that girls in Maharashtra performed better than the national average, especially in social science and language. Rural students from Kolhapur, Satara, and Ratnagiri did better than urban students. Their scores were higher than the national average.

Students in government schools also performed well. Government-aided, private, and central government schools in Maharashtra also scored above the national average. Marginalized communities showed better performance than expected.

In Class 3, Maharashtra scored 69% in language and 64% in maths. In Class 6, the state scored 62% in language and 51% in maths. In Class 9, Maharashtra ranked tenth nationally.
