A notable rise in party permits has been observed this year in the suburban areas of Mumbai, with the Maharashtra State Excise Department approving 300 permits for New Year’s Eve celebrations. This marks an increase from the 200 permits issued the previous year. The rise has been linked to a growing sense of responsibility and awareness among applicants, as suggested by officials.

Out of the total permits granted, it has been revealed that 200 are intended for commercial venues, while 100 have been reserved for residential parties. Applications for these permits are being processed online through the department’s official portal. Residential party permits are being offered at a fee of Rs 12,100, along with an additional Rs 105 application charge. For commercial venues, the permit fee has been set at Rs 24,200, accompanied by the same application fee. Required documents, including an Aadhaar card, are being submitted digitally for verification. Once validated, permits are being issued within 24 hours to ensure compliance with regulations.

It has been clarified by officials that permissions granted by housing societies for New Year’s celebrations generally exclude the serving of alcohol. However, permits issued by the State Excise Department are enabling alcohol to be served legally, preventing potential disputes. A significant disparity has been noted in the number of permits issued in Mumbai city, where only 19 permits have been granted. This lower number has been attributed to the smaller size and limited availability of commercial venues in the city center compared to the suburban areas.

Preparations for New Year’s Eve are being carried out across Mumbai as the year 2024 approaches its end. A series of measures are being taken by local authorities to ensure smooth and safe celebrations. Guidelines are being issued by the Mumbai police, traffic control teams, vigilance units, and the Anti-Narcotics Bureau to assist party organizers and attendees in adhering to regulations.

Public events are being planned in hotels, malls, and other venues across the city for December 31. A comprehensive security framework has been established under the direction of senior officials to maintain law and order. With the Maharashtra government’s approval for all-night celebrations, bars, pubs, and restaurants have been permitted to remain open until 5 a.m. Safety measures are being actively implemented by venue owners to provide a secure environment for guests and to prevent incidents related to alcohol consumption.
