State to start Insurance scheme for Asha workers

Asha volunteers and group promoters in the state have to do regular home visits for maternal health, child health, family planning etc., guiding mothers and children, and sending patients to hospitals. They have to move from village to village to do these jobs. In the meantime, the state government has decided to start an insurance scheme for them so that they get financial help in case of an accident.

Accordingly, it has been decided to take an insurance of INR 10 lakh in case of accidental death of Asha Sevaka and group promoter while performing their duties and INR 5 lakh in case of permanent disability. This will benefit 74,000 Asha Sevikas and 3500 group promoters in the state.


State An estimated fund of INR 1 crore 5 lakh per year has been sanctioned to implement insurance cover for Asha volunteers and group promoters. The government has agreed to provide the necessary funds for this through supplementary demand in the upcoming session.
