1993 Mumbai Bomb Blast Convict Murdered In Kolhapur Prison

A convict in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case was fatally attacked by five inmates at Kalamba Jail in Kolhapur on Sunday. Munna alias Mohammad Ali Khan (59) was attacked after he got into an argument with other inmates over a bath in the jail.


Khan was serving a life sentence in the serial blasts case. The attackers have been identified as Prateek alias Pilya Suresh Patil, Deepak Netaji Khot, Sandeep Shankar Chavan, Rituraj Vinayak Inamdar and Saurabh Vikas. Kolhapur police have registered a case of murder against five persons in this matter.


Munna's assailants, identified as Bablu, Prateek, Ruturaj, Saurabh Vikas Siddh, and Deepak Netaji Khot, are facing charges under the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA). According to officials, the five men attacked Munna when he came to bathe at the well early Sunday morning and also assaulted a jail employee who tried to intervene.

In 2013, Munna was brought to Kalamba Jail. He served his original 14-year sentence and was out for some time, but in 2007 the Supreme Court increased his sentence to life imprisonment.


Munna had taken the prime accused Tiger Memon from Mumbai to Raigad to offload RDX and weapons before the 12 March 1993 blasts. More than 250 people died and more than 1400 were injured in this incident. Munna also helped in taking this cash to Mumbai and then to Mumbai.
