On Monday night, Karan Tiwari, a 27-year old cricketer reportedly committed suicide at his Malad home, in Mumbai. So far, the reason for his death is not known. No death note has been found.
The Police has registered untimely death in the case. However, his relatives said that he had been in a state of depression for the past several days due to lack of opportunities in cricket.
According to sources, Tiwari had been trying for the last several years for IPL matches in Mumbai. However, in March, with the coronavirus outbreak escalating in Mumbai, the IPL was decided to be played in Dubai instead of India. Having missed this opportunity, Karan was allegedly under mental stress.
As per the Police, Karan called one of his closest friends and told him about the current scenario of his career as a result of which he was depressed and was planning to end his life.
Karan’s friend told all these things to his sister. Both Karan's friend and sister live in Rajasthan. His sifter had informed their mother about this conversation but by then it was too late. On Monday night around 10:30, Karan went to his room and locked the door, by the time the door was broken, he was found dead.
After the Police rushed to the crime scene, they sent the body of the deceased to a government hospital for autopsy. The Police are said to be investigating the matter further.
During this lockdown, there have been many instances of suicides that have made the headlines. The most notable one being that of actor Sushant Singh Rajput who was found hanging in his Bandra home on June 14th.
