A 55-year-old woman from Mumbai booked a Diwali cleaning service through an app, which resulted in the theft of gold jewellery worth ₹4 lakhs. The woman, Leena Mhatre, is a resident of Rishikesh Society in Dahisar. She used the NoBroker app on October 21 to make the booking.
Two individuals arrived at her home the following day at 9 am. During their cleaning, they reportedly broke into Mhatre’s cupboard, taking her gold ornaments. Mhatre found out about the theft after the cleaners left and immediately reported it to the local police.
The main suspect, Arbaz Khan, 27, has been taken into custody. Two other individuals, Santosh Omprakash Yadav and Sufiyan Nazeer Ahmad Soudar, were identified through CCTV footage from the housing society and are now under police interrogation.
Arbaaz Khan is currently being questioned by police as they look into his past actions to see if he has committed any similar crimes in the past.
There are many cleaning apps on the market, but no single body keeps an eye on whether these platforms follow personnel verification standards. Few cleaning apps reveal information about staff background checks, despite the fact that the majority promote their services with claims of professionalism and dependability.
Police are investigating whether the NoBroker app verified the background of the workers assigned to Mhatre’s residence. As per reports, regulations require police verification of all personnel, including cleaners, before they are assigned to private homes. The NoBroker app has since blocked the IDs of the three suspects.
