Five people comprising, a mother of a 10-day-old baby girl was nabbed by the NRI Coastal Police for attempting to sell the newborn for INR 2.5 lakh.

Five people comprising, a mother of a 10-day-old baby girl was nabbed by the NRI Coastal Police for attempting to sell the newborn for INR 2.5 lakh, stated reports. The complaint was filed by a woman (38) from Ulwe.

According to reports, she received a call offering a baby post which she felt suspicious and informed the NRI Coastal Police. A trap was then laid that helped nab the accused by Ravindra Patil, a senior police inspector and Prithviraj Ghorpade, a police inspector.

Those arrested have been identified as Zarina Rahim Sheikh (33) the baby’s mother from MHADA Colony, the mediator Jyoti Shahrukh Khan (28), her husband Shahrukh Khurshid Khan who are 28 and 26 years old, respectively. Along with them, Anita Anand Sashte and her son Shubham Anand Sashte who are 47 and 24 years old consequently have been nabbed.

Based on accounts, Vivek Pansare, DCP (Zone I) elaborated that since the mother already has four children, when she got pregnant for the fifth time an abortion couldn’t be undertaken. Thus, she undertook the decision to give the baby for adoption.

Based on accounts, Sashte worked as a caretaker was known to Zarina who contacted her from Kalyan told her about the situation. Sashte then contacted Khan asking them to seek a customer. Since Khan knew that the complainant was without a child, they hoped she would adopt the child. Therefore, the complainant was contacted, she, however, suspected that the child was being stolen and sold. So, she notified the authorities.

On Sunday evening, December 5, a trap was then laid and those accused were asked to come near Nerul railway station. They were then nabbed while accepting the money and were taken before the court. They have been sent to police custody till Wednesday, December 8.
