Bangkok is becoming a hub for cannabis smuggling and the customs department seized 56 kg of cannabis in a recent operation at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. In this action, a case was registered against the five accused under the Narcotics Control Act. The seized hydroponic ganja is valued at INR 56 crore. A large quantity of hydroponic cannabis is being smuggled out of Bangkok and over INR 70 crore worth of cannabis has been seized from the Mumbai airport in the past month.
The Customs Department had received information about large quantities of drugs being smuggled from Bangkok. Based on that information, the customs department laid a trap at the Mumbai airport. According to the information received, five suspected passengers were found by the officials of the customs department. Their luggage was checked. Meanwhile, five suspected passengers were detained by the authorities for questioning. During the investigation, 56 kg of high quality hydroponic cannabis weighing 260 grams was found in his bank. The price of this ganja in the international market is 56 crore 26 lakh rupees. The accused had hidden ganja in green coloured plastic bags.
The accused had prepared a specific compartment in their bag. Marijuana was hidden in it. All the five passengers were asked to stay at a hotel after exiting the airport. There a person was going to approach and take ganja from them. It was decided to pay the accused an air ticket for travel from Bangkok to Mumbai and some commission. But before that he was arrested. A case has been registered against him under the Narcotics Control Act. The accused were produced before the court. The court sent him to judicial custody.
