On Monday evening, a three-year-old girl died after falling in a pit dug for Metro VII between Andheri and Goregaon along the Western Express Highway. As per the Vanrai police station officials, around 6:00 pm, Sheetal Mishra had gone out to buy chocolates but sadly, she did not return.

Her father Karan went in search for her and was shocked to see his daughter lying in the pit filled with rainwater. She was then immediately rushed to a hospital in Jogeshwari but was declared dead on arrival. The deceased girl used to live with her parents below a bridge opposite Oberoi Mall, Goregaon (E).

MMRDA spokesperson Dilip Kawathkar said that appropriate action will be taken against the contractor based on police investigations. The Metro VII is an entirely elevated corridor which is being constructed between Dahisar and Andheri.

Police have registered a negligence case against the supervisor and contractor.
