Maharashtra will soon see the addition of 73 new schools, with Mumbai getting the highest share of 28 schools. However, only one of these new schools in Mumbai will offer Marathi as the medium of instruction. Of the 73 new schools across the state, 65 will be English-medium, and only eight will be Marathi-medium.

Along with the new schools, 54 existing schools in Maharashtra will be allowed to expand by introducing more advanced subjects. This includes two Urdu-medium schools, eight Marathi-medium schools, and 46 English-medium schools.

A total of 241 proposals for new schools and the expansion of existing ones were submitted to the school education department. After a review, 127 proposals were approved. These include 73 new schools and the expansion of 54 current institutions.

The approved proposals are now available to the public to raise any objections. After this stage, the Ministry of School Education will receive a final list for consideration. The final decision will be made based on this list, according to a department official.

After Mumbai, Pune, and Nashik will each receive nine new English-medium schools. Amravati will get eight new schools, with two of them being Marathi-medium. Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar will have seven new schools, including two Marathi-medium. Kolhapur will gain six new schools, three of which will be Marathi-medium. Latur will see five new English-medium schools.

Sixty of the new schools will follow the Maharashtra State Board curriculum. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will oversee eleven new schools. The Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) and Cambridge boards will each have one new school.

The final list of approved schools will be shared with the Ministry of School Education. The ministry will then make the ultimate decision after considering public feedback.
