Performance Grading Index (PGI) for educational institutions is based on the quality of schools run by the government and the availability of infrastructure. This year too, the index was released in terms of infrastructure and efficiency with which government schools are run in the state and Maharashtra, in 2018-19 report, ranks at the 5th position.
Factors like Educational planning, availability of funds are being measured according to this grading index. The Policy Commission initially published the quality index report based on the information available from the previous years. Officials from the human resource development ministry announced the performance grading index for this year and the state has topped in some sections.
Besides the above-mentioned factors, the index was also determined on several aspects which include learning outcomes, quality, availability of facilities, management, etc. The report reveals that Maharashtra's performance has improved this year as compared to previous years, where 2017-18, the state has scored 700 points and now it has scored 802 points on the PGI.
As per the recent report about 2018-19, the state ranks fifth in the country and has topped in some criteria. Besides Maharashtra, other states like Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal have also shown better results than 2017-18 and Chandigarh topped the list followed by Gujarat in the second position.
