Mumbai recorded its hottest December day in 16 years on Wednesday, December 4, due to Cyclone Fengal.
The Colaba observatory recorded a temperature of 35 degrees Celsius, while Santacruz recorded a temperature of 37.3 degrees Celsius.
On Wednesday morning, December 4, Mumbai and parts of Maharashtra witnessed light rains, with the city clocking a minimum temperature of over 25 degrees Celsius.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the southerly winds due to Cyclone Fengal are not allowing the temperature to drop in Mumbai. Owing to this, citizens will have to face the heat for the next four days.
Previously, in December 2008, Mumbai had recorded a temperature of 37.7 degrees Celsius.
Sushma Nair, a scientist at IMD Mumbai, said that the Kalina Observatory recorded Mumbai's highest temperature at 37.7 degrees Celsius on December 5, 2008.
Meanwhile, last week, on November 29, Mumbai's minimum temperature was recorded at 16.5 degrees Celsius, which was the lowest temperature in November in the last eight years.
Less possibility of rain
The winds coming from the south due to the cyclone are not allowing the temperature in Mumbai to come down. Due to the cyclone, the sky in Mumbai was cloudy on Tuesday, December 3. However, the chance of rain is negligible. This cyclone is now moving towards the Arabian Sea. In such a situation, its effect will continue this week. According to the information given by the weather department, the sky will remain cloudy on Thursday, December 5, as well.
