On Tuesday, September 7, due to a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal, a continual downpour has been predicted across the Konkan, Western Maharashtra and south Vidarbha Marathwada subdivisions.
Moreover, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), an orange alert has been issued predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall (64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24-hours) over Mumbai, Palghar, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg, Nashik, Pune, Satara and Kolhapur districts for Wednesday. In addition, heavy to very heavy rainfall will continue in the state till Thursday.
This can be expected to be a major rainfall event after July when many districts in Konkan and western Maharashtra were flooded. Meanwhile, since last week, rainfall activity had considerably improved.
On the other hand, amidst the monsoon season across the state, on Monday, September 6, ten gates of the Majalgaon dam in the Beed district of Maharashtra were opened after heavy rains took the water stock to 100 per cent of capacity from 69.23 per cent a day earlier. According to reports, the gates of the dam, situated on the Sindphana river, a tributary of the Godavari, were opened to a height of two metres.
