A special campaign to collect mango seeds was undertaken on the occasion of World Environment Day under the guidance of Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde. For this, special vehicles were prepared in Circle 1 and Circle 2 areas to collect seeds from societies as well as juice centres, restaurants and hotels.
The citizens of Navi Mumbai have responded very enthusiastically to this mango collection activity. In the span of two days, 12 thousand mango seeds were collected on the first day and 13 thousand on the second day. In total, more than 25 thousand mango seeds were handed over to the Municipal Corporation.
Ever since the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation appealed through various media to collect dried mango seeds, the citizens have enthusiastically participated in it stating that this is a very different initiative.
Another special aspect is that information was received that a similar activity 'Guthli Returns' is being implemented by the popular FM radio channel 'Red FM'. The seeds collected at this channel are reaching the farmers in the rural areas for planting mango plants, providing them with another option of livelihood along with agriculture.

Thousands of listeners of RED-FM channel appreciated Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation for taking the initiative and supporting the Guthli Returns environmental initiative.
