As the days are passing, the number of cases of people infected by the novel and deadly coronavirus (COVID-19) has been steadily increasing. Maharashtra had no positive cases till March 9 but that figure changed with two people from Pune testing positive.
In addition to this, there have been four people that have been admitted in Kasturba Hospital in Mumbai. These people have a varied travel history and have been quarantined as of now.
BMC has shared that it will be conducting regular training sessions. These daily training classes will be held in Kasturba Hospital and even private practitioners are welcome to join in these. Dr Jayanti Shastri, who heads the BMC molecular diagnostic laboratory where the Covid-19 tests are carried out will be conducting these training.
The state has been reinstating that they are well equipped to handle COVID-19. BMC claims that can mobilise over 100 quarantine beds at very short notice. Currently, Kasturba Hospital has 28 beds operational, and they say it can be scaled to 60. The civic body can also add 25 beds each at Rajawadi Hospital in Ghatkopar, Bhabha hospitals in Bandra and Kurla, and the trauma care hospital in Jogeshwari within a time span of 24-hour.
As a part of the precautions that the city has even carried out a sanitisation drive in Mumbai Metro. Travellers are also screened at the airport. So far, over 1.06 lakh travellers have been screened in between January 18 and March 8 at the Mumbai airport. There are conversations happening that the screening should also be done at other high footfall places like railway stations, malls and toll plazas.
The total number of cases in the country too has increased. As on March 10, there are 57 cases of coronavirus in reported in India. Out of these, 54 are active cases. Today, on March 10, Kerala CM confirmed six new cases in the state, which took the total from this state to 15. In addition to this, Karnataka's health minister confirmed that three more cases in their state had tested positive.
The health minister yesterday had an emergency meeting wcorith Delhi CM to discuss the precautions that were being taken and the situation of quarantine beds.
