Maharashtra recorded 9,615 fresh COVID-19 cases on Friday, which took the state's total coronavirus cases to 3,57,117. 278 new deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, and with this, the state's fatality toll has reached 13,132. According to the health department, 1,99,967 infected patients have recovered in so far, including 5,714 in the last 24 hours.
The state's capital Mumbai has reported 1,062 new coronavirus cases on Friday, which took the city's total tally to 1,06,891. The city has witnessed 54 new deaths in a single day, taking the casualty count to 5,981. According to the data provided by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the recoveries in the city have reached 78,260, including 1,158 discharges in the last 24 hours.
Dharavi registered just six new cases on Friday, taking the total positive cases to 2,519. This is the third consecutive day that Dharavi has registered only single-digit growth. The civic body has said that Dharavi now has 128 active COVID-19 cases and the number of recovered patients has gone up to 2,142.The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) which comprises Mumbai city and surrounding areas, has recorded 3,367 new cases and 130 deaths in the last 24 hours. The total tally has gone up to 2,17,317 and the death toll in the region has reached 8,779.
Meanwhile, Aurangabad city has reported 265 new coronavirus cases, Solapur city has recorded 115 new cases and Nagpur city has recorded 139 new cases on Friday.
Pune district has witnessed a massive surge in the number of coronavirus cases this month. In the last 24 hours, Pune city saw 2,027 new cases and 49 deaths whereas Pimpri Chinchwad area saw 973 cases and 17 deaths. According to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), the district has a total of 64,074 coronavirus cases along with the death toll of 1,615. As per media reports, Pune has been facing a shortage of hospital beds due to the rise in infected patients at an alarming rate.
While India has crossed the 13 lakh mark in COVID-19 cases, Maharashtra continues to remain the worst-hit state.
