There have been positive cases from the western suburbs earlier as well. BMC authorities said that in the plush areas of the city, senior citizens have also been tested positive.
One such case is of an 82-year-old who had no travel history but was tested positive. The officials suspect that she might have contracted the virus after travelling to Gujarat. The woman is currently under treatment at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital and Medical Research Institute in Andheri West. Another 82-year-old who has tested positive is the mother of a gastroenterologist and is admitted at Lilavati Hospital.
Following her diagnosis, the civic officials have also asked the gastroenterologist to get tested as well. A BMC official told TOI that the doctor has been taking all the precautions but the BMC is not taking any chances. The officials are suspecting that the patient might have come in contact with her niece, as she had met her a month ago. Meanwhile, the officials said that both the patients are stable and are recuperating well.
The area also tested a 74-year-old man positive after he travelled to Oman. After the 39-year-old returned from Bangladesh and was tested positive, the BMC started tracing his contacts. After the person was tested positive, there was a panic among the locals about the patient's family being under quarantine. There were messages on social media about the same that consisted of the individual's address.
Another patient from Khar is a 19-year-old who had returned from the UK. He was shifted to a hospital on Friday. With the number of cases going up in the western suburbs, the civil body is on their heels to avoid local transmission of the novel virus.
