It has been decided to renovate and update the 'Tobacco Band' clinic at Raje Edward Smarak i.e. KEM Hospital which has been running for over 20 years. For this, the hospital administration has entered into an MoU with Bajaj Electrical Foundation.


The habit of smoking tobacco leads to many other addictions. It invites many diseases. This addiction is also found in teenagers and young generations. 'Drug Addiction Center of Excellence' has been running since 1991 in the Department of Psychiatry at KEM Hospital. Also, 'Tobacco Band Clinic' has been conducted every Wednesday morning for 20 years. Interventions such as nicotine replacement, pharmacotherapy (Varenicline / Bupropion), counselling and behaviour modification services are implemented to help addicted patients to quit smoking.

The Bajaj Electrical Foundation has taken the initiative to contribute to this initiative of KEM Hospital. Bajaj Electrical Foundation's (BEF) Social Responsibility Fund (CSR Fund) will update the 'Tobacco Band Clinic' at KEM Hospital. The initiative will help in patient registration, free medication and community awareness programs. Hospital founder Dr. Sangeeta Rawat and Bajaj Foundation Special Executive Officer Madhura Talegaonkar signed a one-year MoU for this joint venture. Through this it will be possible to provide more up-to-date and quality medical services to the patients through 'Tobacco Band Clinic'.


28 crore citizens are addicted to tobacco

According to a survey, in 2016-17, a total of 28.7 crore citizens aged 15 and above in India are tobacco users. According to the same survey, 1 in 5 adults (i.e. approximately 20 crore) use smokeless tobacco, whereas 1 in 10 adults (more than 10 crores) consumes tobacco.
