The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) awarded a contract for constructing an In-Building Solution telecom network across Metro Line 3 so that mobile and internet services stand uninterrupted. The Metro Line 3 will have an underground corridor. The successful bidder was ACES India Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of Riyadh-based ACES Co.

At the Bangalore Airport and Surat Diamond Bourse, ACES India has implemented In-Building solutions. The licensing price collected per station is around 2.5 times more than any other Indian metro line.

Given that Mumbai Metro Line 3 is totally underground, with platforms that are 18 to 20 m below ground and station concourses that are 10 to 14 m below it, mobile network and internet dispersion are now major challenges.

MMRC plans to solve this issue. MMRC will ensure that the commuters have good internet and mobile networks during the journey and will deploy cellular coverage from mobile service providers such as Jio, Vodafone, Airtel, and MTNL.

Through the use of In-Building Solutions, antennae and repeaters will be installed inside tunnels and subterranean stations.

Ashwini Bhide, Managing Director of MMRC said that the non-fare box revenue earned by Metro Line 3 through this initiative was the highest in India. During their travel on the underground Metro Line 3, passengers will benefit from continuous mobile and internet access with this In-Building Solutions program.

R. Ramana, Director (Planning & Real Estate Development/NFBR), MMRC, expressed his joy at obtaining the highest yearly premium for In-Building Solutions in the nation to date. He thinks that this project will greatly aid Metro Line-3 operations and improve the commuter experience as a whole.

Mumbai Metro Line 3 is the most recent addition to the rapidly expanding metro network. It is sometimes referred to as the Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ Line and the Mumbai Metro Aqua Line. Metro Line 3 will feature 27 stops along a 33.5km route that runs from Cuffe Parade to Aarey Colony. Mumbai-Metro Line 3 was announced as a Joint Venture between the GOI (Government of India) and the GOM (Government of Maharashtra) on a 50:50 share basis. It would be operated by the MMRC. In 2018, the INR 23,136 crore building plan for the metro line was approved.

JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) is providing funding for the majority of the project, i.e. 57.2%, through an ODA loan of INR 13235 crores with 30 years to repay it, a project-specific interest rate of 1.15%, and a consultancy service-specific interest rate of 0.01%.

On the other hand, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) took a few crucial steps regarding Metro Line 4&4A that connects Mumbai and Thane. It recently appointed a contractor for the construction of Mogharpada Depot in Thane. It will seamlessly facilitate Mumbai’s transportation by connecting Wadala to Gaimukh with significant stops at Ghatkopar, Mulund, Thane, and Kasarvadavli.
