In a significant development, it has come to light that the four-lane 466km Mumbai-Goa Highway in Maharashtra is likely to be completed by May-June 2025.

While much of the work is nearing completion, the construction of several bypasses, underpasses, and flyovers in towns like Mangaon, Indapur, Pali, Lanja, Kolad, and Chiplun is still pending. However, authorities are hopeful that the road will be fully functional by the start of the monsoon season in 2025, making travel between Mumbai and Goa faster and more convenient.

With this, commuters travelling between Mumbai and Goa will enjoy significantly reduced travel time from 12 hours to just 6 hours.

Additionally, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) is set to benefit from a new controlled-access highway that will connect the cities of Kalyan, Dombivli, Ulhasnagar, Ambarnath, and Badlapur to Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, and the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA).

The 84km Panvel-Indapur stretch is being developed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), while the remaining stretches are being widened by the Public Works Department (PWD) under the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.

Owing to delays, the ambitious highway expansion has seen a substantial cost escalation. Initially estimated at INR 3,500 crore, the project’s revised cost has surged to INR 7,300 crore, reports stated.
