Nifty and Sensex ended higher for the second consecutive day on July 23 led by financial stocks.
At close, the Sensex was up 138.59 points or 0.26 per cent at 52,975.80 and the Nifty was up 32 points or 0.20 per cent at 15,856.
About 1534 shares have advanced, 1644 shares declined and 115 shares remain unchanged.
On the Nifty 50 index, ICICI Bank (3.16 per cent), ITC (2.61 per cent), Wipro (2.56 per cent), SBI Life Insurance (2.38 per cent) and SBI (1.62 per cent) were the top gainers for the day, while Tata Motors (-2.31 per cent), Grasim (-2.06 per cent), Larsen (-1.85 per cent), Adani Ports (-1.70 per cent) and Tech Mahindra (-1.53 per cent) were the top losers for the day.
On the sectoral front, except Auto, Power and Infra sectors, all the other sectors ended in green.
The BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices ended flat.
Author’s View: 15,800 will be an important support level in the short-term perspective. If the market breaches the level of 15,900 and is able to sustain above this level, the market expects to gain momentum, leading to an upside projection of 16,200 levels.
