The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is going to create a mobile app to manage the parking lots in Mumbai in a proper manner. Parking lot reservation will soon be available online. The civic body has appointed a consultant for this work. With this facility, Mumbaikars will be able to reserve a space for a vehicle before reaching a place.
The BMC had announced the establishment of a Parking Authority. It was also decided to bring a mobile app for parking management. It is likely to gain a momentum now. Therefore, in the near future, all the information about the parking spaces available in the Municipal Corporation and other government institutions, i.e. Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority, Port Trust, roadside parking lots and private housing societies will be available in a single software. This system will not only make it easier for motorists to find a parking space, reserve a space, but the system will also be useful in regulating the traffic on the roads, including making full use of the available parking spaces.
Advantages of the facility
Users can make 'digital' and 'contactless payments' using this facility. This transaction can be done in a few moments. These transactions will be attached to the 'License Number Plate' of the vehicles. It will be verified whether the transaction related to that vehicle has been completed or not. Users who use these parking facilities regularly can pay the charges using the mobile number associated with the vehicle. Importantly, these digital transactions can be done from anywhere. Along with this, FASTag facility will be attached for complete digital transactions. This will also save fuel and time.

Under this project, parking facilities will be provided in four phases. But the first phase will include spaces other than street parking. It includes 32 public parking lots and 29 facility parking lots in 17 divisions of the municipality. The second phase will include the proposed 530 roadside sites on top of the existing 65 sites.
The picture of transport system will change
This 'software' will make it possible to integrate all aspects related to the parking facility. Municipal officials have expressed the belief that the overall picture of Mumbai's transport system will change due to this facility. Information related to parking will be available to Mumbaikars 24 hours a day on mobile and other devices.
