Right after empowering Central Railway’s Matunga station with all women staff, Western Railway’s Matunga Road station will become the second suburban railway station which will be operated by women from March 8, 2018, which is celebrated as 'International Women’s Day'.
The women’s team who will operate the station will include the station manager, ticket-checking staff, announcers, point persons and personnel from the Railway Protection Force. In total there will be 31 women who will be looking after the station. This includes 13 safai workers, three ticket checkers, 11 booking officers, four RPF personnel, informed Ravindra Bhakar, PRO, WR.
Prior to Matunga Road station, the WR was considering to make Marine Lines or Bandra station entirely women-operated.
