Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) has clarified that it is yet to set a date for commissioning Metro 3 Phase 1 or Aqua Line. Phase 1 of Metro 3 between Aarey Colony and BKC will start operations after receiving all the certificates. Once fully operational, the Aqua Line will run between Colaba to SEEPZ.
“We have not fixed the date to start operation of Metro 3. Inspection by Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) is pending. Date of commencement of service will be decided only after approval of CMRS. MMRCL is likely to invite CMRS for inspection this month,” said a senior MMRCL official.
“We have completed 99% of the administrative works while the construction of the metro station is 97% complete. Similarly, tunnel work is complete, total system work is 77.6% complete, depot civil works are 99.8% complete and mainline track work is 87% complete,” the official added.
Metro 3 is a 33.5-km long underground corridor running along Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ. There are several levels like Research Design and Standards Organization (RDSO), Independent Safety Accessor (ISA), Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS). “The RDSO has completed the inspection and the certificate is awaited while the ISA inspection is currently underway,” the official said.
MMRCL currently has 19 rakes in its fleet, which are sufficient to run Phase 1 of the Underground Metro Corridor. This metro services will cater to approximately 1.7 lakh passengers per day. MMRCL is also working on multi-modal integration of stations. This will include last mile connectivity with other modes of public transport, good footpaths outside the station, seating arrangements and foot over bridges where necessary.
