The city is eagerly waiting for double-decker buses, however, the tenders floated by the Brihanmumbai Electrification and Transport Enterprise (BEST) for leasing 10 open double-decker buses have not received a response even after three months.
BEST discontinued the last open deck bus in October 2023, as the bus had completed 15 years of life. Subsequently, BEST decided to continue to open double-decker buses for tourism. An BEST official said that the BEST is planning to hire noise-free electric buses, which will be air-conditioned on the lower level and the upper deck will be open.

These buses are a major attraction during the festive season and in the evenings. On 26 January 1997, BEST launched the first open double decker bus. In the last few years, the number of these buses have come down from five to three. This service was continued till 5 October 2023.
BEST operated open double-decker buses for tourists, mainly covering iconic places and sightseeing spots in South Bombay. These buses were also hired for parties.
