In a significant development, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) Commissioner Dr Sanjay Mukherjee announced on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), that the ridership of Metro Lines 2A and 7 has crossed the 10-crore mark.
This development came days after the more than 1 lakh people availed the special 10 per cent discount on Mumbai metro ticket fare for the polling day, which was held on May 20.
“Proud day for MMRDA, Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Ltd (MMMOCL), as the total ridership of #Metro Lines 2A and 7 reaches 100 million! A million thanks to Mumbaikars for choosing Metro as the preferred mode of travel. My congratulations to the team,” he added.

The Metro lines operate 257 trips daily between 5.55 am and 11 pm.
Recently, a station on this line in Malad was renamed as Motilal Oswal Malad West Metro Station.
The metro lines 2A and 7 fully began its operations from January 2023, while the first phase of both corridors was inaugurated on April 2, 2022.
The 18.6-km-long Line 2A extends from Dahisar to DN Nagar, with 17 stations. It also provides interconnectivity with Line 1 (Ghatkopar to Versova), Lines 2B (DN Nagar to Mandalay) and 7 (Andheri East to Dahisar East), and Line 6 (Swami Samarth Nagar to Vikhroli).
Similarly, the 16.5-km-long Line 7 seamlessly connects Dahisar to Andheri East. Besides providing linkages to Lines 1, 2A and 6, the corridor has helped a lot in decongesting the Western Express Highway.
