Amid the delays faced by the commuters on the Mumbai suburban network, the Central Railway (CR) on Tuesday, June 25, increased the speed of the local trains from 80kmph to 95kmph. Owing to this, the train will not stop between Tilak nagar to Panvel. It will save upto five minutes of travel time and improve punctuality.

It is pertinent to note that this also comes during monsoon season when trains are usually delayed.

CR operates 188 services between CSMT to Panvel and 79 services between CSMT to Belapur. It takes 80 minutes between CSMT and Panvel; and it takes 65 minutes between CSMT and Belapur.

With the local speed of 105 per hour, it would have been difficult to keep the distance between the two trains. Therefore, due to safety reasons, the railway administration gave permission to increase the speed to 95 kmph.

Along with increasing the speed of the railway, Central Railway is going to examine the railway tracks. So that there will be no disturbance in the local.

Additionally, unauthorised constructions and slums between Tilak Nagar to Wadala have also been removed.

Many passengers had demanded that the speed of travel between Kurla and Mankhurd should be increased. At present, Harbor line trains take 33 minutes to travel between Kurla and CSMT instead of 30 minutes to reach Kurla via main line. However, incidents of track crossing occur frequently at Chunabhatti-Kurla-Tilak Nagar. Therefore, it is impossible to increase the local speed even during this time.
