Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) provides opportunities to women who belong to the financially weaker sections of the society. BMC provides sewing machines, flour mill, and money to women and helps them with their lives.
However, BJP corporator Daksha Patel said that in today’s time, women should go beyond these traditional vocational skills and shall be encouraged to make their livelihood by driving taxis and auto-rickshaws. Patel demanded that along with the sewing machines and flour mill, BMC should include an auto-rickshaw and shall pay 50 per cent of the total amount for the same.

For the social and financial development of women from financially weaker sections, BMC in its gender budget, under women and child welfare schemes, provides training for self-employment. BJP corporator Daksha Patel asserted that the current scheme, during today’s time, is limited.
Under Deendayal Antyodaya scheme, the women are given free training to learn driving as a part of skill development and it is necessary for BMC to take a concrete step to make suitable use for this training in regards to self-employment, Patel said.
