According to reports, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) along with the assistance of NGO Project India, will be conducting vaccination camps against COVID-19 at educational institution's premises. The island city has 6,12,461 eligible citizens between the age of 15 -18 for vaccination, claim accounts.

However, a mere 83,934 have taken the first jab since the campaign began on January 3, remarked narratives. Additionally, it has been reported that Mumbai ranks 34th in Maharashtra when it comes to vaccination coverage amongst young adults.

Based on accounts, the civic authority has seen that many parents are reluctant to send their children to the COVID-19 jumbo centres for vaccination, thus, hampering the drive. Reports, quoted additional municipal commissioner, Suresh Kakani who elaborated on how Mumbai has a limited number of centres for the vaccination of young adults in contrast to other districts.

This according to him is causing Mumbai to lag behind. He added that the civic body wanted to put up vaccination centres in educational establishments but the COVID-19 taskforce members were reluctant citing adverse events. Kakani further elucidated that since they haven't seen any adverse effects in the last nine days, they have decided to commence the vaccination drive in educational institutions where parents will be more comfortable.

The NGO roped in by the BMC had previously assisted in the door-to-door vaccination initiative for the elderly. They are spearheading this campaign by offering healthcare support at the venue. The BMC, on the other hand, will assign a medical office from the ward office.

According to the account, the college principal or director has to send a request letter for vaccination that mentions the estimated number of beneficiaries. They will also be liable to apprise the parents of sending the pupils on the said date for vaccination.
