Bombay High Court Proceedings to Be Live-Streamed Starting July 7

The proceedings of the Bombay High Court will be live-streamed from Monday, July 7. A notification has been issued regarding live-streaming of proceedings. High Court Chief Justice Alok Aradhe had hinted at this last month. Initially, the proceedings of the bench headed by the first five judges in order of seniority will be telecast live. Thereafter, the proceedings of all the benches and single benches of all the High Courts will be telecast live gradually.

The public interest litigation seeking live streaming of court proceedings was filed by lawyer Mathews Nedumpara. The bench headed by the Chief Justice had said that we are working towards live broadcasting of the High Court proceedings and that all the judges had unanimously passed a resolution for live broadcasting of the proceedings of some courts.

The Chief Justice had clarified that the technical arrangements are being made for this purpose and initially, the proceedings of the benches headed by the top five judges in the seniority order of the High Court will be telecast live. Against that backdrop, the proceedings of the bench headed by the top five judges in the seniority order of the High Court will be telecast live from Monday.

According to the decision of the High Court administration, the court proceedings of the following benches will now be live-streamed:

Chief Justice A. S. Aradhe and Justice Sandeep Marne, Justice Revati Mohite-Dere and Justice Neela Gokhale, Justice M. S. Sonak and Justice Jitendra Jain, Justice Ravindra Ghuge and Justice Milind Sathaye, Justice Ajay Gadkari and Justice Rajesh Patil.

The aim of live-streaming court proceedings is to bring greater transparency to the judicial process. The Supreme Court of India has already begun live-streaming certain cases. Additionally, several other High Courts — including those of Gujarat, Karnataka, and Odisha — have also started live-streaming their proceedings.
