Maharashtra Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha announced on Thursday, May 8, that all Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in the state will now include disaster management training. This step comes in light of growing tensions between India and Pakistan.
A new program has begun to teach students basic skills in civil defence and disaster preparedness. The training started on Thursday, May 8, at the Rajamata Jijau Government ITI in Kopri, Thane. It will soon expand to other ITIs across Maharashtra.
The training will be held in collaboration with Aniruddha's Academy of Disaster Management. Former Director General of Police Praveen Dixit will lead the sessions. The programme will cover many parts of emergency response and civil defence.
According to Lodha, the goal is to help young people prepare for natural disasters and national emergencies. He said the training will build strength and readiness among the youth.
Earlier in April, the state government said it would install modern labs in 20 ITIs. These labs will support students with disabilities and help improve their skills. The government expects about 9,750 young people from Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Nashik, and Amravati divisions to benefit from the training in four years.
In the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the Department of Skill, Employment, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation signed three important memorandums of understanding.
The MoUs were signed with Schneider Electric India Foundation in Bengaluru, DeAsra Foundation in Pune, Shri Shri Rural Development Program Trust in Bengaluru, and Project Mumbai in Andheri.
