22-year-old Mayuresh Haldankar lost his life to the Elphinstone stampede which took place on Elphinstone bridge. A resident of BDD Chawl, he was the only earner in the family.
We lost our very good friend in this stampede. He used to study and earn. He was going to work on Friday and he died. Mayur is survived by his sister, aunt, and father. As his family was poor he used to support his family by learning and earning,” Lalit Salunkhe, Mayuresh’s friend.
He used to colour Ganesh idols during Ganpati Festival and was also an active member of Shiv Samrat Mitra Mandal. People of his area were saddened and shocked due to his death.
We had written to Ajay Chaudhary regarding the Elphinstone bridge repair and expansion. Shiv Sena’s MP Arvind Sawant had also taken up the issue but the state government did not pay attention and so they and central railways should be held for abetment of suicide case,” Abhijit Patil, deputy president, Yuva Sena, Worli.
