The State government of Maharashtra has permitted relaxations for several businesses to resume operations across the state, and with lockdown being eased, the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has also started its work across the city.
In a recently taken decision, the department focused on collecting the property tax has come up with a new initiative which could benefit both the government and the citizens. As per the new plan, the municipality has implemented the use of a ‘mobile van’ facility for its taxpayers.
As per reports, this new idea has been in service for the last eight days, and concerned officials have been collecting taxes from different areas of Thane city, with the help of this mobile van. The department has stated that the initiative has made it possible for Thanekars to avoid travelling to pay taxes, and the same can now be done with ease, near their homes.
The plan for this van was devised by Municipal Commissioner Dr Vipin Sharma. To ensure ease for the citizens, the department has also made necessary arrangements for people to pay property tax using cash, cheque, debit card, and ATM cards, whereby a tax receipt is also issued immediately.
To ensure safety, the mobile van is designed keeping the RBI standards and related compliances in mind. Furthermore, it is equipped with computers, printers and all the necessary facilities, operators, drivers and security guards. Sharing more information, officials from the TMC informed that all the expenses for the same were borne by the Bank of Maharashtra.
Over the next few days, camps will be set up at housing complexes on public holidays or other days, which will help people pay property tax, on time and at ease, using the mobile vans which will be available for the collection. The mobile van can also be sent to the housing societies if the officials receive a considerable number of requests regarding the same.
