A developer demolished 225 houses in Marwari chawl in Chembur 16 years ago as part of a slum rehabilitation project. However, the project affected people have not yet been rehabilitated. In this regard, the residents visited the office of the people's representatives several times, but nothing was found in their ranks. Against this, one and a half thousand residents have decided to boycott the Vidhan Sabha elections.

Marwari Chawl was located next to the elite colony 'Basant Park' in Chembur, with 225 houses. A developer expressed his intention to implement the SRA scheme by showing the dream of a house in the building to the citizens here 16 years ago. Residents agreed to this plan as they would get a house in the building in three years. After that the huts were vacated. For the first few months, the developer paid rent to these slum dwellers on time. However, over time, the developer stopped paying house rent to the slum dwellers.

For the past 16 years, these residents have been living in a rented house and for that, they have to suffer a lot. Residents had to protest for rent against this. A new building has not yet been constructed under the SRA scheme. So the shack dwellers ran to the local people's representatives for help. Despite many requests to solve this issue, no solution could be found.
