The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is building a 50-meter-high viewing deck tower in Bandra. The tower will offer wide views of the Arabian Sea and the city skyline. It will be located next to the Bandra-Worli Sea Link (BWSL).
The tower is part of the BMC’s Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) project in Bandra. The project will include a road to allow tourists to visit the tower. The structure will cover 2,500 square meters. It will have ramps and lifts for easy access.
The ground and first floors of the tower will have a knowledge hub. This section will show the history of the BMC and its efforts to save water. It will also include an outdoor lounge area for visitors. The civic body is also planning to install telescopes and binocular stands, like those at the Burj Khalifa in Dubai.
The Bandra STP site is very close to the BWSL bridge. Because of this, the authorities were allowed to build the STP only below ground level. The surface area is being used to build public spaces and green areas.
The full cost of the Bandra STP project is INR 4,300 crore. This amount also includes the cost of building the viewing tower. The tower and the STP are expected to be ready for the public by 2027. It has also been reported that the site will not smell since the treatment plant will be completely odour-free.
