Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said that 90 percent of Mumbai trans harbour link project work has been completed and this sea route will be opened from November this year. The Chief Minister said that this is the longest sea route of the country with Open Road Tolling (ORT) where vehicles will not have to stop on the bridge to pay toll. Currently ORT is in use in cities like Singapore.
In the presence of the Chief Minister, the first longest orthotropic steel deck i.e. about 180 meters long and weighing about 2300 metric tons was constructed in package 2 of the Mumbai Trans Harbor Link project. Mumbai City Guardian Minister Deepak Kesarkar, Minister Dadaji Bhuse, Sanjay Rathore, MP Rahul Shewale, MMRDA Metropolitan Commissioner SVR Srinivas, Additional Commissioner Govindaraj etc. were present on this occasion.
The distance between Mumbai and Chirle in Raigad district will be covered in 15 to 20 minutes by this sea highway. It is an eco-friendly marine highway and world-class technology has been used in its construction.
A total of 36 spans have been completed out of a total of 70 orthotropic steel deck spans of the entire project. The ambitious Mumbai Trans Harbor Link (MTHL) project by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority is currently in progress and 90% of its construction is complete. The sea length of this bridge is about 16.5 km and the total length of the land bridge is about 5.5 km.
