Our priority is to protect the lives of the citizens by installing safety nets in the congested areas of Mumbai city. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced on Wednesday that our target is to free Mumbai from landslide incidents.
In Mumbai, many families are living in shacks on slippery hillsides. Every year there is a risk of landslides on these huts during the rainy season. There are around 200 such places in Mumbai. Some of these places are extremely dangerous.
The most prone areas for landslides are in the eastern suburbs. Among them, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has taken up the work of installing a protective net as a preventive measure in terms of safety at the place declared as highly dangerous and likely to collapse in the Azad Nagar area of Ghatkopar. Chief Minister Shinde inspected this work on Wednesday.
This is the first time such a technology has been used in a flood-prone area in Mumbai. At 31 potential locations, state-of-the-art technology has been introduced in view of the condition of the landslide-prone areas. Chief Minister Shinde had directed a survey at 31 places in the landslide-prone areas of Mumbai. Then I inspected the work today.
