In what comes as a liberal move for Mumbaikars, Mumbai Police Commissioner Sanjay Pandey on Saturday, March 12, announced that no citizen will be called to police station in the city for the passport verification process, as done earlier. However, in exceptional cases, when the documents are incomplete, the applicant will be called.
Taking it to Twitter, Commissioner Pandey said, “#PassportVerification. We have decided no citizen will be called to the police station in Mumbai except in exceptional cases of documents being incomplete etc. If not followed, do report.”

According to a new order released by the newly-appointed Commissioner, a constable will now go to the address mentioned by the passport applicant to complete the procedure. In case of any discrepancy, the applicant may be called to the police station, the order stated.
The move is expected to streamline the passport clearance process and make it simpler and quicker.
Mumbaikars have welcomed the decision taken by Police Commissioner Sanjay Pandey regarding passport verification. The commissioner's decision has freed Mumbaikars from the time-consuming process of verification. Applicants have to stand in queue at the police station for hours to get a verification done. In addition, it also leads to several cases of corruption.
Besides, since assuming office as commissioner, last week, many important decisions have been taken for Mumbaikars.
Additionally, in another major development, Mumbai Police Commissioner, Sanjay Pandey, has stated that he will do away with the private wardens to assist the police force in managing the traffic in Mumbai.
