Mumbai Rains Update: Nearly 50% of entire July's rainfall recorded within 48 hours

As per IMD’s five-day forecast, the weather bureau issued a yellow alert for Mumbai between July 11 and 13.

After witnessing a dry spell in June, Mumbai received nearly half of monthly rainfall quota for July within just 48 hours owing to incessant rains across the city.

Between July 7 and 9, as much as 422mm rain or 49 per cent of the monthly requirement of 855.7mm was recorded, as per the India Meteorological department (IMD).

Of the total quantum of rain recorded during the 48-hour period, 268mm was recorded between July 7 and 8 while 154mm was recorded between July 8 and 9.

Usually, on an average, from June to September bring 2,318.8mm rainfall. The city has already recorded 38% or 889mm of that quantum.

However, this year, Mumbai recorded 35% less rain during the month of June, despite an early onset of monsoon.

It is pertinent to note that the average overall water stock in all the seven lakes that supply water to Mumbai stood at 22.26% on Thursday morning, July 11.

As per IMD’s five-day forecast, the weather bureau issued a yellow alert for Mumbai between July 11 and 13.

Meanwhile, an orange alert has been issued for Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts between July 12 and 13.
