Maharashtra government had announced to build a 121 metre high Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue in the Arabian Sea. However, before that, a 25-feet high replica will be constructed in South Mumbai for people to make suggestions regarding the same.
Public Works Department (PWD) informed that the construction of the replica will be at a place mostly where the crowd gathers such as Kala Ghoda, Gateway of India, or Nariman Point.

Maharashtra government has given the contract to build 121 meters long Shivaji Memorial to L.N.T. construction company in the Arabian Sea. The memorial will be 1.2 kilometres away from Raj Bhawan, 3.6 km from Girgaon Chowpatty, and 2.6 km from Nariman Point.
From next year, the construction of the memorial will start and the government plans to finish it in three years. Earlier on December 24, 2016, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the memorial.
