Additional commissioner of Thane Municipal Corporation, Prashant Rode, has instructed to conduct a structural audit of all hoardings in the Thane Municipal Corporation area and submit a stability certificate to the Municipal Corporation in the wake of the hoarding collapse accident in Mumbai.
Along with this, the advertisement department has also been instructed to conduct an immediate survey to find out the unauthorised and dangerous hoardings in the municipal area and take action.
In the wake of the Mumbai tragedy, a meeting was organised on Wednesday morning to implement all the instructions given by the state government. According to the instructions of Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao, Deputy Commissioner (Advertising Department) Dinesh Taide, Assistant Commissioner Ranju Pawar, representatives of advertising companies were present in this meeting chaired by Municipal Additional Commissioner Prashant Rode.
There are 294 small and big structures for putting up hoardings in the Thane municipal area. All these structures are regularly subjected to structural audit. However, now their owners-companies have to complete a fresh structural audit and submit the stability certificate to the Municipal Corporation within eight days. Notices have also been given to all the companies for this. Prashant Rode explained that if the stability certificate is not submitted, action will be taken as per the rules.
Also, hoardings whose size exceeds the approved measurement, if it is not improved within eight days, the municipality will remove the additional work. Rode also said in this meeting that the concerned company will be fined for that.
Also, if the board is placed at a height higher than the height prescribed by the state government, that height will also be reduced. A survey of dangerous hoardings raised in height will be conducted by the advertisement department. At the same time, if there is any unauthorised hoarding in the municipal area, it has also been directed to search and take action.
There are some hoardings in the municipal area, within the limits of Central Railway and under the jurisdiction of Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation. It was informed in this meeting that both the systems have been informed regarding structural audit and submission of the copy of the stability certificate to the Municipal Corporation within eight days.
