As per the action plan prepared by the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) to combat the increasing heat, temporary water stands have now been started in a total of 50 places in the municipal area with the help of various NGOs. These additional 25 water stands have been started in collaboration with CREDAI-MCHI, Thane.
Earlier, in the first phase, 25 water stand were started with the participation of YES Charitable Trust, JVM Charitable Foundation and Samarth Bharat Vyaspeeth. A water cooler has also been installed at Gaondevi Market in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Thane Northend.
A comprehensive heat management plan for Thane was prepared last year to control the crisis caused by the increasing heat in the city due to urbanization.This plan has been prepared jointly by the Government of Maharashtra, Thane Municipal Corporation and the Council of Energy, Environment and Water.
Accordingly, the TMC is alert to deal with the heat wave and, keeping in mind the seriousness of the situation, a large-scale public awareness campaign is being carried out in the municipal area as per the instructions of Commissioner Saurabh Rao.
As per the instructions given by Commissioner Saurabh Rao, water stands have been started in the municipal area this year as well, just like last year. Commissioner Rao had given instructions to increase their number in a review meeting of department heads.
Accordingly, Chief Environment Officer Manisha Pradhan informed that the Environment Department, in collaboration with CREDAI-MCHI, Thane, has started 25 more temporary water stands. For the convenience of the citizens, water glasses have been placed at these 50 places. The concerned NGO is making arrangements to fill them with pure drinking water every day.
To help citizens stay hydrated during the summer, temporary drinking water booths have been set up at various locations across the city by the authorities. These include areas such as in front of Hanuman Mandir near Kopri Bus Stop, near the temple at CIDCO Stop, close to Khopat Rickshaw Stand, Gavdevi Parking, Jambhli Naka, and near the RTO and Jail. Other locations include Khopat ST Stand, Vandana ST Stand, B-Cabin, Teen Hath Naka near the rickshaw stand, and near Ghosale Lake. Additional booths are placed at Cadbury Signal (Share Rickshaw Stand), Vrundavan Bus Stop, Gokulnagar Bus Stop, Castle Mill Circle, 16 Number Share Rickshaw Stand, Manpada Chowk (Tempo Stand), Dhokali Share Rickshaw Stand, and in front of Titan Hospital in Manpada.
Water booths have also been installed at Vasant Vihar Bus Stop, Shastrinagar Naka, Diva Mahotsav Naka, Diva-Agasan Road, Khardigaon-Khardipada, and Diva-Shil Road at Shilphata. These efforts aim to provide easy access to drinking water for commuters and pedestrians during peak heat hours.
Earlier, temporary drinking water booths had already been set up at several key locations in the city to support public needs during the hot season. These locations include Thane Station, Kopri Bridge, Ice Factory, Ashar IT Park, Kisannagar School, MIDC-Ambika Nagar No. 3, Padwal Nagar, Hajuri Village, Passport Office Bus Stop, Teen Hath Naka, Kolseht Road Junction, Balkum Naka, Majiwada Naka, Kalwa Station Road, 90 Feet Road in Kharegaon, Kalwa Naka near Datt Mandir, Kausa Lake, Wafa Park, Amrut Nagar Police Chowki in Mumbra, Lokmanya Depot, behind the Central Jail in Rabodi, Court Naka, Vartaknagar Naka, Shastrinagar Naka, and Balkum. These booths were part of earlier efforts to provide free drinking water at high-footfall public areas.
