Central Railway (CR) has begun construction work at Thane Railway Station. The work includes microtunneling and pipe-pushing operations. Due to this, bikes, cars, and taxis cannot enter the area around Platform No. 1.
A latest banner outside Platform No. 1 informs the commuters about the project. However, the banner does not mention the completion date.
As per reports, platform No. 1 is an important point for trains heading to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CST). Many passengers use it during peak hours to exit the station. With access restricted, movement around the platform has become difficult.
Construction work is visible at the site. JCB machines are in operation. Pipe-pushing and microtunneling activities have also started. The area remains closed for road access.
Earlier in January 2025, RLDA issued an Expression of Interest (EOI) for leasing vertical airspace at Thane Railway Station. This was part of a larger plan to develop a multi-modal transit hub. The project is under the Station Area Traffic Improvement Scheme (SATIS) in partnership with the Thane Municipal Corporation.
RLDA’s proposal includes constructing Tower-1, an 11-story commercial building. It will be built on a 9,000-square-meter plot near Platform 10A. The building will have eight upper floors for commercial use. The concourse level will be used for bus operations. The ground and mezzanine levels will provide railway-related services. The basement will be used for parking and utilities.
