The Karnataka Police Special Investigation Team (SIT) has arrested 13 people so far in connection with the murder of Journalist and social activist Gauri Lankesh. Of 13 accused, Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) on Wednesday took the two accused – Sujith Kumar aka Pravin and Bharat Kurne - into their custody. They were moved to Mumbai from Central Jail in Bengaluru.
ATS informed that the accused arrested in Nalasopara Explosive Case, and their alleged role in Dabholkar Murder Case, were trained in firearms at Kurne’s farmhouse in Karnataka. It has come out that the two accused in Gaur Lankesh Murder, now under ATS custody, were allegedly involved in a bomb blast at Belgaum's theatre during Padmavat Controversy.
ATS, until now, has arrested nine people in Nalasopara Explosive Case including Vaibhav Raut, Sharad Kalaskar, Sudhanwa Gondhalekar, Shrikant Pangarkar, Avinash Pawar, Vasudev Suryavanshi, and Liladhar aka Vijay. Adding to the list, Sujith Kumar and Bharat Kurne.
Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), currently investigating Dabholkar Murder Case, also plans to interrogate the two accused. The investigative agency is already interrogating Sachin Andhure, Sharad Kalaskar, and Amol Kale regarding the same. Andhure and Kalaskar have confessed to murder Dr Narendra Dabholkar.
Kumar and Kurne were already under judicial custody for three and almost two months, respectively. While demanding their custody, ATS told the special court that they both were in touch with Vaibhav Raut.
