On Tuesday, April 8, the Bombay high court directed the Maharashtra government to revert the petition filed by stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra. He asked in a petition to quash the FIR registered against him for allegedly defaming Maharashtra deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde during a show that happened in February, as per the report by The Indian Express.
The division bench of justices Sarang Kotwal and SM Modak posted the matter for hearing on April 16 after issuing a formal notice to the state government and the complainant, Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel.
The bench said the matter should be taken up before the relief expires, observing that Kamra has already been granted anticipatory bail by the Madras high court till April 17.

Kamra performed for his show ‘Naya Bharat’ on February 2, 2025. The recording of the show was then uploaded on YouTube on March 23. On the same day, around 10.45 pm, Patel filed a case at Khar police station for allegedly embittering two rival political parties, which resulted in the spread of hatred among them. He also alleged that Kamra attempted to defame deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde.
