On Tuesday, January 11, news agency PTI reported that a 45-year-old man was run over by a vehicle that is unidentified in Mumbai's Ghatkopar, the police said. The mishap transpired near Pramod Mahajan Garden on Sunday, January 9, night, an official from the Tilak Nagar police station said. 

According to the report, the victim has been identified as Ashok Lodhe who was walking home. That's when an unidentified vehicle ran over him and drove away, said the police official. Based on the account, Lodhe was then taken to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead. 

The official added that the police are going through the CCTV footage from the vicinity to identify the vehicle. The narrative cites that a case has been registered under section 304-A which is causing death by negligence of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). 

Apart from this, a case has also been registered under the requisite provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act. Further investigation is now underway, highlighted the official through means of the accounts. 

Previously, an incident took place on December 28, wherein three pedestrians were crushed to death after a mini-truck knocked them down on the Mumbai-Bengaluru highway.
